Steve Bethell

Celebrant

Shane Brown is the proud owner and founder of Creative Stageworks, Union & Co, Young Stars NZ, and Creative Stageworks Music Lessons. With more than 25 years in New Zealand's performing arts industry, Shane has become a respected figure within theatre and music circles. A performer, musical director, educator, and mentor, he has appeared on some of New Zealand's biggest stages, performed in more than 50 productions, musically directed over 24 musicals, and plays five musical instruments. He is passionate about creating opportunities for both young and adult performers to develop their talents, build confidence, and have their voices heard.

After spending 15 years teaching at Turitea School in Palmerston North, Shane set out to build performing arts organisations that would inspire and empower people throughout New Zealand. Today, he travels the country delivering programmes, productions, workshops, and vocal coaching, while also teaching piano, keyboard, and ukulele in the Manawatū. Throughout his career in education and the performing arts, Shane estimates he has worked with between 6,000 and 8,000 children, helping them develop confidence, resilience, creativity, and a lifelong love of performing.

Shane dedicates the success of his businesses to the memory of his mother, who passed away in 2011. Her loss profoundly shaped his outlook on life and inspired a philosophy that continues to guide everything he does: be brave, take risks, chase opportunities, and never be afraid to dream big. It is a message he shares with the thousands of young people he works with each year — life is short, live it.

Steve Bethell is a wedding celebrant based in the beautiful Manawatū and Tararua regions, and is always happy to travel wherever a couple’s special day takes him.

He is dedicated to creating ceremonies that genuinely reflect each couple’s story. Whether the vision is traditional, modern, relaxed, or completely unique, Steve offers calm guidance, creativity, and heartfelt support from the first meeting through to the moment vows are exchanged.

Fluent in Te Reo Māori, Steve is honoured to incorporate language, tikanga, and cultural elements into ceremonies when desired — weaving depth, connection, and meaning into the occasion.

Before becoming a celebrant, Steve served in the Navy, gaining confidence in public speaking and experience coordinating large-scale events. These skills now help him ensure every ceremony runs smoothly, feels effortless, and sets the perfect tone for the celebration that follows.

Steve believes every love story deserves to be celebrated in a way that feels authentic and unforgettable — your day, your way.
